Course Overview
TOPIn this five-day Cisco course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of EVPN VXLAN technologies. This course delivers a thorough and practical exploration of Cisco EVPN VXLAN fabric networks, equipping learners with the skills needed to design, deploy, automate, and manage modern data center and campus network infrastructures.
It begins by introducing the foundational concepts of Ethernet VPN (EVPN), highlighting its advantages over traditional Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols, and explaining how VXLAN encapsulation and scalable fabric architectures solve key limitations in legacy designs. As the course progresses, students dive into the critical components of VXLAN, including underlay and overlay architectures, packet structures, control and data plane separation using MP-BGP, and the integration of IRB and Anycast Gateway models for efficient Layer 2/3 connectivity. Learners also gain hands-on experience with fabric security enhancements such as Security Group Tags (SGTs), BUM replication methods, and multicast support using Tenant Routed Multicast (TRM).
Platform-specific modules cover detailed configuration and deployment on Cisco Catalyst 9000 and Nexus 9000 switches, with step-by-step labs reinforcing underlay routing, overlay VNIs, multicast setup, and troubleshooting practices. The course then introduces automation technologies including Ansible, Terraform, NX-API, RESTCONF, and NETCONF, allowing learners to streamline EVPN provisioning and achieve Day-0 to Day-2 operational efficiency. In addition, students explore centralized visibility and control using Cisco Nexus Dashboard and Cisco Catalyst Center, including topology discovery, policy enforcement, AI-driven assurance, and integration with Cisco ISE for identity-based security.
By the end of the course, participants will be proficient in deploying and maintaining highly scalable, secure, and programmable EVPN VXLAN fabrics across a variety of enterprise environments, making them well-prepared for real-world networking challenges.
